Introducing Communities in Decentraland
By Decentraland, , in Announcements

Decentraland has always been shaped by its people—the creators, event-goers, explorers, and friends who make it come alive every day. Connections have always happened here, but they’ve often been one-on-one or centered around specific events.
Everyone joins Decentraland for different reasons—art, music, gaming, fashion, or just hanging out. What’s been missing is an easy way for groups with shared interests to stay connected, organize, and grow together in between those moments.
Communities (Beta) give niche groups a home base in Decentraland where you can:
Find and connect with people who share your passions.
Join events together that you actually care about.
Keep the conversation going between events, right in Decentraland.
Private & Public Communities will launch together on September 9. Community Voice Streams are still in development and will launch on a later date.
Whether you’re joining a creative collective or taking part in events built around your favorite interests, Communities give you the tools to gather, organize, and share—right where the action happens.
What a Community in Decentraland Is
A Community is your hub for finding and staying connected with the people you click with most in Decentraland.
It’s:
A group built around a shared interest, niche, or need—whether that’s a large public group or a small circle of friends.
A space where members can chat, learn together, and forge stronger connections, with group chat and Voice Streams (coming later) making it even easier to stay in touch.
A place to gather and showcase events for a particular audience, all in one place, making it simple for members to keep track of what’s happening and what’s planned.
A space with moderation options—Owners and Moderators can help guide, nurture, and grow a Community over time.
A hub for recurring rituals and shared moments—whether that’s a weekly meetup, a monthly tournament, or simply checking in together after an event.

How It Works
Find and Join Communities
In the sidebar menu, you’ll find a new icon that opens the Communities section. From here you can browse Communities or even create your own.
Joining Public Communities will be as easy as clicking a button—and if it’s not for you, leaving is just as simple. Private Communities will be joinable via invite or request—in the future, owners will also have the option of keeping their Community unlisted.

Community Profiles
Each Community has its own profile page, displaying its description, members, linked Places, event calendar, and more. Anyone can see the details of Public Communities whereas only descriptions will be visible to non-members of Private Communities.

Stay in the Loop with Events
Never miss what’s next. Every Community comes with its own event calendar. See what’s planned, get notified when things kick off, and jump in when it’s time to gather—whether it’s a game night, fashion show, or live music set.

In-World Community Chat
When you join a Community, a dedicated group chat appears in your conversations list—and stays there for as long as you’re a member. This means conversations, plans, and quick hellos all stay in one place: right here in Decentraland.

Roles and Management
Each role has its own level of responsibility and access, from Owners who manage everything, to Moderators who help run things day-to-day, to Members who keep the conversation and events alive. Here’s what each can do:

Community Voice Streams (In Development)
Coming later this year, Voice Streams will provide a space for Community members to talk together without the need for third-party tools. Offering a moderated space with speaker roles and hand-raising functionality, Voice Streams will make group discussions and events like panel talks a breeze.
How to Create Your Own Community
Starting a Community in Decentraland is quick and simple—anyone who owns a NAME can create one.
Go to Communities and click ‘+ Create a Community.’
Add your profile picture, name, and description. This is how other players will recognize and discover your Community.
Select your Community’s Membership & Privacy type and Discoverability setting.
(Optional) Link your LANDs or Worlds. Note, public photos taken by anyone in these spaces will automatically appear on your Community profile.
Hit ‘Create’—and you’re live!

How to Add an Event To Your Community
If you’re a Community Owner or Moderator, you can set up official events for your group.
Go to Decentraland Events. (Make sure you’re logged into your Decentraland account.)
Click ‘+ Submit Event’.
In the event form, use the Community dropdown to select the Community you want to link the event with (only Communities you manage will appear).
Fill in the event details—category, title, description, time, and location (LAND or World).
Submit your event.
Your event will automatically appear in your Community’s Event Calendar once it has been approved, so members can easily stay updated and join in.
What’s in the First Release
The launch of Communities focuses on the essentials. Right now you can:
Browse all active Communities in one place.
Create and join both Public and Private Communities.
Link events to your Community.
Get notifications for upcoming Community events.
Stay connected through a dedicated group chat.
Promote Community members to Moderator roles.
Ban or remove members who disrupt the Community.
This launch is just the start. Communities are in an early stage (beta), and your feedback will help shape what’s next. Voice Streams are already in development and more capabilities are planned for future updates.
Communities Jumpstart Program (Pilot)
Update – Sept 27, 2025: Applications for the Communities Jumpstart Program (Pilot) are now closed. Thank you to everyone who applied.
Anyone can create and grow an organic Community in Decentraland. For selected Community leads, an optional pilot program is being introduced to reward Community leaders who bring people together and host weekly engaging events.
How It Works
Monthly stipend: Selected Communities will receive a fixed stipend of $800 USD (value paid in MANA).
Additional bonuses: On top of the stipend, a monthly incentive bonus will be available for Communities that hit key engagement milestones. Specific KPIs will be shared directly with selected leads. Bonus tiers include $1000, $2000, and $3000 USD (value paid in MANA).
Pilot phase: The program runs for six months. Incentives will be reviewed and paid out monthly, with the structure re-evaluated at the end of the pilot based on Community feedback.
Expectations for the Selected Community Leads
Define a clear niche audience.
Host at least one community event per week tailored to that audience.
Manage and evolve an in-world community space.
Market events to reach a broader audience and grow attendance.
Facilitate collaborations, prompts, or creative challenges.
Connect with outside communities in related niches.
Surface tooling, onboarding, or cultural needs through structured feedback.
Submit a monthly update and a final 6-month impact report.
Examples of What Communities Can Do
To help illustrate, here are a few ways different types of Communities could run recurring events:
Chess Community – host a weekly open play session, invite a Chess Master for a workshop, or run a tournament.
3D Builder Community – organize a gallery tour, run a tutorial on world-building tools, or host a feedback session on new creations.
Music Fans Community – hold a weekly album listening party, invite a DJ to stream a set, or host discussions on favorite artists.
Book Club – pick a book each month, meet weekly to discuss chapters, and host a final wrap-up event.
These are just examples. The goal is to show variety—different niches, interests, and rituals that help members regularly connect in-world.

Bringing Connection Home
This is about more than chat features or profile pages. Communities make Decentraland more connected and more fun. It’s a space for your people, right where the action happens with no more bouncing between outside tools to plan an event or share a moment.
Your people are here. Communities make it simple to find them, connect with them, and make Decentraland feel like home.
