How To Make & Run An Event In Decentraland

By Decentraland, , in About Decentraland

From late-night DJ sets to global festivals and intimate art tours, events are what give Decentraland its rhythm. They’re the moments that turn a virtual space into a shared experience, where strangers become friends and ideas come alive. Hosting your own event is one of the most powerful ways to contribute to that culture. Here’s how to get started.

Event Ideas to Inspire You

Decentraland events come in all shapes and sizes. The platform is open and flexible, which means there’s no single “right way” to host. To get your creativity flowing, here are ideas across the main categories:

  • Art & culture: gallery openings, interactive installations, cultural showcases

  • Education: skill-sharing workshops, panels, language exchanges

  • Gaming: treasure hunts, puzzle nights, esports watch-parties, parkour practice, Game Arena meetups

  • Live performances: DJ sets, theatre, stand-up comedy

  • Music: album release parties, jam sessions, listening lounges

  • Networking: speed networking, industry meetups, “find your guild” nights

  • Party: themed raves, birthday celebrations, after-parties for bigger events

  • Religion & spirituality: meditation circles, scripture readings, virtual pilgrimages

  • Social activities: karaoke, movie nights, book clubs

  • Talks & presentations: keynotes, pitch nights, AMAs

  • Town Hall: DAO calls, community roundtables, district updates

  • TV & movies: watch parties, film festivals, Q&As with directors

Events That Work

ABC DCL - Adventures of Decentraland (Organized by BillyTeacoin)

ABC DCL is a weekly exploration series where the hosts take people around different parcels. It works because it’s consistent, interactive, and creates a sense of ongoing story—attendees come back to see what’s next.

UnMonday Yourself (Organized by DHINGIA)

UnMonday Yourself is a weekly music night designed to make Mondays fun. It’s a perfect example of taking a pain point (Monday blues) and flipping it into a reason to celebrate. The branding is strong, the music is varied, and the giveaways keep people engaged.

Beyond the NFT (Organized by Sinful)

Beyond the NFT weekly talk show hosted at Meta One Designs HQ, featuring creators, builders, and voices from across Web3. It works because it blends community storytelling with education and entertainment. The regular format makes it dependable, while the guest lineup ensures every episode brings fresh perspectives.

Why these events work:

  • Repetition builds familiarity and trust—people know when to show up.

  • Consistency of theme makes them memorable (adventure, Monday escape, storytelling).

  • Community participation keeps them alive—people show up not just for the event, but for the friends they’ve made there.

How to Run a Decentraland Event (Zero-Build): Step-by-Step

1. Decide on the Format

First, be clear on what type of event you want to run. It could be a party, DJ set, panel talk, workshop, tour, or even a watch-party. Keep it simple for your first time, and aim for a session that feels manageable.

Think about who your audience is and what they’d enjoy:

  • Parties and DJ sets attract people looking for music, dancing, and social energy.

  • Panels and workshops appeal to curious learners or those who want to develop new skills.

  • Tours are perfect for newcomers who want to explore builds and meet people.

  • Watch-parties work well for casual hangouts where the focus is on chatting while enjoying shared content.

By matching your format to your audience, you’ll set the right tone and make sure the event feels rewarding for both you and your attendees.

2. Choose a Venue

You don’t need to own LAND to host an event. Many venue owners in Genesis City are open to hosting community events, or you can use a World linked to your NAME (See What Are Worlds?). Make sure the venue matches your theme: a nightclub for music, a conference hall for panels, or an open plaza for community gatherings.

The best way to find a venue is to explore Decentraland yourself—visit clubs, plazas, and auditoriums until you find a space that feels right for your event. Once you have a favorite spot, reach out to the LAND owner through the Decentraland Discord to see if they’re open to hosting.

Another option is to ask directly in the Decentraland Discord. Share your event idea and get recommendations from the community on venues that might be a good fit. Many owners are happy to support events that bring activity and culture to their spaces.

When confirming, ask the venue owner or manager for:

  • A contact person during the show

  • Permission to stream to their scene (if needed)

  • Temporary mod/admin permissions (mute/remove, pin messages)

3. Confirm the Streaming Setup (Optional)

If you’re planning to stream music, video, or talks, check that the venue supports it. Some parcels already have A/V screens or sound systems, but not all do. Ask the venue owner what’s possible at their location.

Right now, the best way to manage streaming in events is through the Scene Admin panel:

  • Scene Admin: Add the Scene Admin smart item to your scene (or confirm the venue already has it). Admins can control video screens, swap streaming links, send announcements, trigger smart items, and even moderate players — all live, in real time. Learn more in the Scene Admin guide.

  • Video Screens (for Genesis City or Worlds): If the venue has a Video Screen smart item, you can stream or play videos by connecting via OBS or a similar tool. Learn how in the Video Screen documentation.

Tip: Always run a sound and screen check before your event. That way, if something needs adjusting, you can fix it in private rather than troubleshooting in front of a crowd.

4. Get a Team Together

Events run more smoothly with a small team. At minimum, you’ll want:

  • A host to welcome people and guide the flow

  • A tech helper to monitor the stream and fix small issues

  • Moderators or greeters to answer questions in chat and keep the vibe friendly

If you’re not sure where to find collaborators, start in the Decentraland Discord—many creators and community members are open to volunteering or partnering on events.

5. Create Your Event Listing

On the Events page, submit your event with a cover image (1340×670 px), a clear title, and a description that tells people what’s happening, who’s involved, and what to expect. Add the time (in UTC), category, and venue. If it’s recurring, use the same name and branding each week.

💡Tip: Optional extras like giveaways of Wearable and Emotes can add a special touch. For information on how to do this, ask in the #event-producers channel in the Decentraland Discord.

6. Promote the Event

Promotion is what gets people in the door. Share your event link:

  • On X (Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok

  • In Discord servers and Telegram groups

  • Directly with friends and collaborators

Consider making a teaser image, video clip, or even offering free Wearables to help spread the word.

Don’t forget to tag @Decentraland!

💡Tip: Use the Decentraland Referral Program. If you’re inviting friends who are new to the platform, you can earn rewards when they join through your referral. Head to your Decentraland Profile and click ‘Referral Rewards’ to get your referral link.

8. Host the Event

Open the venue a little early so people can gather. Have moderators greet new arrivals and answer questions. As the host, set the tone by welcoming everyone and explaining what’s planned. Keep chat lively, use Emotes to create energy, and give shoutouts to attendees to make the room feel alive.

9. Wrap up and Follow Up

End on a high note—thank people, mention what’s next, and drop any prizes and/or Wearables if you have them.

Afterwards, share highlights or screenshots on social channels and remind people of the next date if it’s a series. Encourage attendees to post their own screenshots too—and don’t forget to tag @Decentraland so we can help amplify your event.

Do You Run a Decentraland Community?

If you already manage a Decentraland Community, you can connect your events directly to it. When you submit an event on the Events page, you’ll see an option to select one of your Communities.

Once linked, the event will appear inside your Community hub in-world. Members will be able to see it, RSVP, and receive in-world notifications when the event is live.

This feature makes it easier to keep your members engaged and gives your events a built-in audience. Whether it’s a book club, a DJ collective, or a gaming group, tying your event to your Community helps strengthen connections and makes participation feel more natural.
