Raised in West London by her Italian and Latin American family, Rosa’s multiethnic roots have certainly inspired and influenced her artistry. She began her music career, formally, at 16 as ‘Rosa Iamele’ on the BBC’s biggest music competition ‘The Voice’. After knockout performances coached by icon Sir Tom Jones, Rosa had matured in a new stage of womanhood, developing her sound to encompass the vitality of neo-soul and jazz. Yet, more noticeably she renames her brand to use her middle name Cecila: “my surname is Arabic in descent from my Italian side, and no one can ever pronounce or spell it”. Like many artists that have adapted their name to suit the poignantly critical music industry, one thing that Rosa will not be compromising on is her honest and bold personality. Inherited from her mother’s Chilean heritage, she assures me that whether in the studio creating music, or making creative decisions about her artistry, she is unapologetically herself: “people always say to me that in this industry you have to be true to yourself, I’m like honey...
