Introducing DCL Regenesis Labs
By DCL Regenesis Labs, , in Announcements

DCL Regenesis Labs is the execution arm of the Decentraland DAO. It is a legal and operational body created to turn community decisions into consistent delivery. Regenesis Labs exists to close a structural gap: the DAO could debate, vote, and fund initiatives, but it lacked the tools to reliably execute them. Regenesis Labs brings the missing infrastructure: the ability to hire globally, sign contracts, and coordinate long-term projects on behalf of the community, all aligned with the DAO principles.
Why Regenesis Labs Exists
Decentraland’s governance model has matured through proposals, delegate deliberation, and community votes. But while decision-making was strong, delivery often fell short. Funding distribution was fragmented. Treasury management initiatives stalled and never came to life. No legal entity existed that could contract, hire, or provide the accountability expected by contributors and partners. Grant proposals passed, but too often they did not translate into sustainable, long-term delivery.
Regenesis Labs was created to address these weaknesses. It provides the legal and financial infrastructure needed to operate in the real world, enabling contracts, hiring, and compliance. It is also responsible for carrying forward the development projects that the community identifies as priorities, such as launching Decentraland on new platforms, including mobile and VR, or producing compelling interactive experiences that give users more reasons to engage in-world.
Beyond execution, Regenesis Labs coordinates community funding programs, ensuring that ecosystem grants and small projects receive not only financial resources but also guidance, follow-up and strategic alignment. It serves as a space for experimentation, where new ideas and technologies can be tested to expand what the protocol makes possible for creators.
Regenesis Labs is built on transparency and accountability. Reports, dashboards, and open forums make its work visible, and oversight from the DAO Council ensures that its mandate remains aligned with community intent. Regenesis Labs is not a new Foundation. Decentraland Foundation continues to safeguard the brand and the reference client, while Regenesis Labs belongs fully to the DAO: funded by the community, overseen by the Council, and accountable to the citizens of Decentraland.
The Community Mandate
Regenesis Labs was born out of two key moments of discussion: the Decentraland Community Summit in Buenos Aires (May 2024) and the Regenesis Summit in Lisbon (October 2024). In both gatherings, one conclusion stood out: the DAO had the vision and the resources, but lacked the operating structure to reliably turn decisions into delivery.
From this realization, a series of community-driven proposals took shape. The result was threefold: the creation of Regenesis Labs as the DAO’s Executive Arm, the establishment of a DAO Council elected by the community to define strategic direction and oversee Regenesis Labs, and the adoption of a mission statement for the DAO:
“Ensure the sustainability of the Decentraland ecosystem through representative governance, management of collective resources, and technical innovation.”
Regenesis Labs exists to advance this mission. It does not replace the DAO; it carries out its decisions. It does not control the treasury: it executes programs funded through an operational budget approved by the DAO Council. And it does not operate without checks: the community retains ultimate oversight through the election and dismissing of DAO Council members, and transparency requirements.
How Accountability Works
Regenesis Labs operates under a framework of checks and balances:
DAO Council: Elected by the community, responsible for approving the operational budget and appointing an Executive Director to ensure alignment with community intent. The community retains ultimate authority through the right to veto decisions and to elect or dismiss Council members.
Operational budget: Regenesis Labs does not have direct access to the DAO treasury. It works on a fixed budget approved by the Council, renewed and adjusted based on performance.
Transparency reports: All spending, contracts, and program progress are tracked and published, with financial flows managed through multisig structures to keep off-chain activity minimal.
Open communication: Updates and discussions are maintained in a dedicated forum category and through the Council Communications thread.
The First Year Theme: From Structure to Delivery
Since its formal start in June 2025, Regenesis Labs has been moving from concept to practice by:
Building a core team across operations, engineering, product, and specialized contributors.
Setting up the legal entity that makes the DAO a viable counterparty in the real world.
Continuing development of alternative clients while funding interactive community scenes and events.
Engaging with third-party providers to implement a structured treasury management strategy approved by the DAO Council.
These steps were not always easy and not without disagreement, but they established the basis for Regenesis Labs to serve as a reliable engine that turns community decisions into outcomes.
Reaching the Broader Community
Until now, most DAO conversations and updates circulated through the Governance Forum and Discord. Regenesis Labs will now also use official Decentraland channels—this blog, social media—to share progress.
This ensures that the programs delivered, the progress made, and the lessons learned are visible not only to DAO regulars but also to creators, newcomers, partners, and the wider Decentraland community that is vital to the ecosystem’s growth and to the Regenesis Labs success.
The Road Ahead
Priorities for the coming year are aligned with the DAO’s mission:
Expanding accessibility: Alternative clients across mobile, VR, and web using open source tech.
Engaging content: Supporting the development of playful, interactive experiences that spark curiosity and attract new users.
Empowering creators: Resuming community funding initiatives, introducing AI-assisted workflows, and supporting new forms of content creation.
Treasury stewardship: Advancing frameworks for diversification and yield generation to extend the DAO’s runway.
Governance strength: Introducing clearer reporting, improved tooling, and more inclusive participation.
Ecosystem activations: Organizing hackathons and cultural events, and building partnerships that bring new builders and audiences into Decentraland.
Join the Next Chapter
Regenesis Labs exists to turn community decisions into delivery. That work is underway but it will only succeed if more builders, creators, and contributors take part.
If you build worlds, design economies, model 3D assets, write code, compose music, or simply want to experiment: Regenesis Labs could be your lab. Join a hackathon, propose a program, comment in the Forum, or help test the next clients. Decentraland was never meant to only be consumed; it was always meant to be co-created.
Look out for Regenesis Labs updates across Decentraland’s official channels. This is an invitation to hold it accountable, challenge its decisions, and celebrate its progress.
The future of Decentraland depends on those willing to shape it. The next chapter begins now.
