Decentraland 2025 Manifesto: Igniting the Community-Driven Flywheel

Under the 2024 banner, Forging Foundations for the Future, Decentraland’s platform was rebuilt from the ground up, culminating in the October release of the robust and immersive DCL 2.0 client. This new, desktop-only reference client, together with an updated white paper, signaled the beginning of a new era for Decentraland—one that we’ll truly begin to see unfold in 2025.
As a decentralized platform, the ultimate success of Decentraland relies on an interconnected feedback loop—a flywheel fueled by community, creativity, and shared experiences. This flywheel begins with growing the community, which sparks greater social interactions, drives demand for engaging content, and unlocks more opportunities for creators to thrive. As creators fill Decentraland with new content, they in turn attract even more users, reinforcing a self-sustaining cycle of growth and activity. Now that Decentraland has a performant technical foundation that can support this growth, the Foundation’s primary mission in 2025 is to ignite its community-driven flywheel, kicking off the momentum essential to Decentraland’s long-term success.
Setting a charge at every spoke of the flywheel, 2025’s strategy focuses on investing in impactful initiatives that reward engagement, support creators, stimulate the economy, and—most importantly—grow Decentraland’s community.
2025 will see Decentraland spotlighted as the ultimate destination for connection, creativity, and collaboration. As this new year begins, let’s work together to supercharge Decentraland’s momentum and set it on an unstoppable course to thrive as a self-sustaining, social virtual world driven by its community’s energy and boundless imagination.
What to Expect in 2025
Adopting a multi-faceted strategy to ignite Decentraland’s community-driven flywheel, 2025 will see the launch of programs designed to engage the community across the DCL experience, as well as targeted marketing efforts to bring in new users, a packed event schedule to bolster new connections, and continued technical progress to make the DCL 2.0 desktop client the best it can be!
Decentraland Rewards Programs
A key component of Decentraland’s 2025 strategy, the Foundation will spend the year developing and trialing a variety of programs that aim to incentivize every part of the Decentraland ecosystem that fuels the community-driven flywheel. While these programs will initially be kicked off and funded by the Foundation, the DAO may take over their administration once it has completed its restructuring process.
Creator Connect
Designed to 1) Fill Genesis City with innovative new content, 2) Onboard more creators to Decentraland, and 3) Provide job opportunities for Decentraland studios and builders. The first edition of the Creator Connect program will pair renowned 3D artists with established DCL builders to create unique and immersive experiences with long-lasting value. The program will additionally provide the necessary resources and support to foster fruitful collaborations. Over time, the program is expected to evolve to cover a whole range of different types of builds, so this will be an exciting program to follow! Look for more details towards the end of Q1.
Marketplace Credits
Still in the early concept phase, this program aims to 1) Engage new and returning users, 2) Reward active community members, and 3) Fuel the creator economy. Rewarding active participation in the Decentraland ecosystem with time-sensitive Marketplace Credits (that can be used for Polygon Wearables & Emotes) will boost engagement and help new users invest in personalizing their digital identity, contributing to user retention while also financially supporting creators. A trial edition of the program is expected to kick off in May.
Community Builder Program
Planned for development in Q2, the primary goal of the Community Builder Program will be to provide financial and technical support to active community leaders, helping them amplify their community building efforts while ensuring their contributions to Decentraland are recognized and rewarded.

An Engaging Event Schedule
The 2025 event strategy for Decentraland is all about making our social virtual world feel more alive, relevant, and connected than ever to engage the community and grow it at the same time. With a focus on meeting new friends, having fun, and living your best life as your DCL avatar, this year’s event schedule will experiment with new concepts, revive underused LAND, and showcase Decentraland’s unique open-world ecosystem.

Three tentpole events—Fashion Week, Art Week, and Music Festival—will continue to position Decentraland as a global platform for design and creativity. What’s more, each will return with an exciting new twist: your avatar will take center stage in the curation, performances, and interactive experiences. More details to come!
This year, a lineup of new, smaller-scale events will be introduced, designed to help new and returning users alike meet great people and build genuine friendships. Events like Decentraland Prom and LAN Party will reactivate existing plazas with fun, games, and connection. Decentraland Career Quest will take things one step further, with opportunities to develop your professional potential in virtual worlds.
Finally, a new series of ‘Trail’ events will highlight Decentraland’s unique open-world design, offering curated paths and tours linking different venues and attractions across the Genesis City map to promote exploration and discovery. A key part of this new event type will be working closely with LAND owners and venues to bring fresh energy to long-standing spaces, offering free activations as part of the events program. Technical Progress & Feature Enhancements
Vital in maintaining the momentum of Decentraland’s flywheel, the Foundation’s commitment to continued technical progress will drive the Product & Engineering Team’s efforts in 2025. This year will focus on addressing community feedback, fixing key issues, refining the DCL 2.0 client, and expanding platform features to make Decentraland more social, accessible, and engaging. Some updates you can expect throughout the year are:
Social Features: Friends are coming back! Worry not, this essential DCL feature is already in development and will be coming to you in Q1. With more improvements planned over the course of 2025, you can expect social features, such as Private Chats and new Emotes that make social interactions more natural, to receive special attention this year.
Improved Performance & Bugfixes: While the DCL 2.0 client made great progress in offering a smoother in-world experience, the Foundation Engineering Team’s primary focus in 2025 will be the continued refinement of the client to offer the best possible performance on both high- and low-end devices, as well as better multiplayer experiences.
Creator Tool Enhancements: Continuous improvement of Decentraland’s creator tools remains a top priority for the Foundation, aiming to remove barriers to creation and empower builders to design more complex, immersive, and optimized scenes. This year, builders can expect more comprehensive no-code solutions, scene controls, easy sharing of custom items, and more interaction capabilities, such as new locomotion mechanics, physics, dynamic light controls, materials, and particles.
Smoother Onboarding: Crucial to growing Decentraland’s community, the in-world onboarding experience will be streamlined, making it more engaging, intuitive, and educational for users from all backgrounds, ensuring new users are able to experience the full potential DCL has to offer.
Community Growth
The community is the driving force behind the flywheel that ensures Decentraland’s long-term success. Expanding Decentraland’s reach and promoting community growth is the surest way to build the momentum that will see the platform thrive. Investing more in 2025 for user acquisition than ever before, the Foundation is already ramping up marketing and community growth initiatives, focusing on three key areas:
Leveraging Decentraland’s True Identity In the past, Decentraland has primarily focused on engaging a Web3-savvy audience. In preparation for the 2024 DCL 2.0 launch, the Foundation took a step back to deeply understand Decentraland’s true use cases by listening to the community, diving into research, and reexamining the platform’s core strengths. What became clear is that Decentraland is, at its heart, a social virtual world.
Shaped by the unique digital culture of its community, Decentraland has grown far beyond its blockchain beginnings, becoming a space for connection, creativity, and shared experiences inhabited by users from all backgrounds. In 2025, the Foundation will be aligning both product and marketing efforts to emphasize this refined positioning. By showcasing the true identity of Decentraland, we aim to attract users who are passionate about building relationships, exploring virtual environments, and engaging in community-driven creativity. This clarity in messaging will help us reach a broader audience of people beyond Web3 users.
Investing in Marketing Since the launch of DCL 2.0, the Foundation has already been experimenting with a variety of user acquisition tests to better understand how to reach and attract its expanded potential audience. Based on early successes, these efforts will be amplified in 2025, investing in strategies that boost Decentraland’s visibility and inspire curiosity about what’s possible in our virtual world. Whether it’s through targeted outreach, tailored messaging, educational content, or creative marketing partnerships, the Foundation’s goal is to bring in more users who are eager to make friends, explore, and engage with the experiences our community has worked so hard to create.
Broadening Platform Availability Meeting potential users where they already seek immersive experiences would dramatically increase exposure and accessibility to Decentraland’s unique virtual world. In 2025, the Foundation will aim to publish Decentraland on popular game distribution platforms, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Itchio, and others, tapping into their massive user bases.
With these initiatives, the Foundation is laying the groundwork for exponential growth in Decentraland’s user base and community in 2025, building momentum to carry the platform far into the future.
