Announcing Decentraland Game Expo: Register for the Game Jam & Call for Games Now!

Save the date—from June 26-29, one of Decentraland’s main plazas will transform into a colorful, neon-lit arcade of amusement to host the inaugural Decentraland Game Expo!

#DCLGX invites you to explore the future of web3 gaming on fairgrounds dotted with booths from the best games in Decentraland and others that feature exciting content from big players in the gaming industry. The 4-day event will also include a schedule of daily live web3 conversations with industry experts that will be streamed within Decentraland as well as on social media platforms Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

In advance of the Expo, creators will compete in a Game Jam with an $17,000* prize pool to develop engaging games based on a central theme in just 1 month. The top 4 winning games of the Jam will be centrally located at DCLGX, showing off the creative potential of Decentraland’s SDK 7 and the talented creators that make up its community. Get your new or existing Decentraland Game featured at #DCLGX 

Want to get involved in Decentraland’s first Game Expo? Whether you already have a successful game running in Decentraland or you’re looking to build something new, the Expo has something for you!

If you’re full of ideas and up for a challenge, then Decentraland’s 2024 Game Jam is your ticket to getting featured at DCLGX! Teams of 1-6 must register for the Game Jam starting from April 24 to be included. On May 1, all teams will be sent this year’s Game Jam theme and further instructions so the fun can begin with a combined prize pool of over $17,000* at stake! See the details further below.

If you’d like your pre-existing game to be shown at a DCLGX booth, you’ll want to apply to the Call for Games which is open from April 24-May 10. Ten 1x1 booths will be available for those selected and will offer the opportunity to promote your game and teleport expo-goers to your game’s coordinates. Register for Decentraland’s 2024 Game Jam

To participate in Decentraland’s 2024 Game Jam, you must first register your team of 1-6 on the Jam’s itch.io page, starting from today, April 24. On May 1, the Game Jam will open and all registered teams will be sent this year’s theme and guidelines. Teams will then have a month, until May 31, to make the best game possible. Up for grabs is a combined prize pool of over $17,000* in MANA and a chance to have your game exhibited at Decentraland’s first Game Expo!

Important Dates

  • April 24: Registration opens

  • May 1: Theme & Guidelines dropped, Game Jam goes LIVE

  • May 31: Submission deadline, Game Jam closes

  • June 5: Winners Announced

  • June 26-29: Winners showcased at Decentraland Game Expo

The Challenge

Create a new Decentraland game that can be installed and enjoyed on a 4x4 LAND parcel (64 x 64m) with the entirety of the publishable content not exceeding 240 MB (not counting the /node-modules folder). The game theme and judging criteria will be revealed to all registered teams on May 1, so make sure to register now!

The Prizes

  • 1st Place: 20,000 MANA* + Game Exhibited @ DCLGX

  • 2nd Place: 10,000 MANA + Game Exhibited @ DCLGX

  • 3rd & 4th Place: 5,000 MANA + Game Exhibited @ DCLGX

  • Top 25 Entries: 100 MANA for a Decentraland NAME

All winners will additionally receive promotion from Decentraland’s official Twitter account.

*At the time of publication 20,000 MANA is equivalent to over $8,000 USD. The total prize pool is equivalent to over $17,000 USD. The winning amounts will be paid in MANA at the close of DCLGX and rates may vary. Current MANA rates can be found here.

Apply to the Call for Games: Get your existing DCL game featured at DCLGX

Calling all Decentraland game owners! A special zone at DCLGX, Decentraland’s first Game Expo, will be dedicated to showcasing the best from DCL’s gaming community, with up to 10 1x1 booths available.

Important Dates

  • April 24: Applications open - apply here

  • May 10 @ 11:59pm UTC: Applications close

  • May 22: Selected games announced

  • June 16: Selected games submit their 1x1 Expo Booth

  • June 26-29: Decentraland Game Expo

Who can apply?

This is a promotional opportunity for existing Decentraland games. Your game should already be finished and deployed in Genesis City or a Decentraland World and must have a free-to-play version available.

If you miss the Call for Games deadline or are not selected, you can instead host an event during the Expo’s dates in June on Decentraland’s event page. Be sure to include the #DCLGX tag in your event description, and your event will be included in the DCLGX program.

How will the games be selected?

Up to 10 games will be selected for DCLGX by the Decentraland Foundation. Games will be chosen to show a variety of what Decentraland offers and will focus on the player experience and the game’s level of innovation.

  • Player experience: The mechanics of your game should be engaging and easy for new players to understand

  • Innovation: Your game should utilize the capabilities of Decentraland in its interactivity and gameplay

Decentraland Game Expo Booth Details

  • If selected for the Expo, you will be provided with a 1x1 game booth template as a GitHub repository. You will be able to customize this template with your own brand, graphics, and models. More details will be provided to the selected games’ owners.

  • The booth will contain a teleporter that you can program to teleport expo-goers to your game, however you must also install the same teleporter in your game to transport visitors back to Decentraland Game Expo.

  • Your booth will be installed in DCLGX plaza during, and up to six months after, the expo. It may also be moved to alternative locations by the Decentraland Foundation during this time.

Application Instructions

To apply for a chance to display your game at a Decentraland Game Expo booth, complete the application form by 11:59pm UTC on Friday, May 10. You will be asked for your contact details and information about your Decentraland game. Selected games will be announced by Wednesday, May 22. Good luck!
