How to Download and Install the Decentraland Client on PC and Mac

Decentraland was designed to be able to run from a browser so that anyone could access the virtual social world, regardless of their hardware’s capabilities. However, the browser version of Decentraland won’t offer you the best possible performance as browser limitations can result in slower load times and a lower frame rate, among other constraints. For the most immersive experience it’s highly recommended that you download the Decentraland Client for PC or Mac so that you can enjoy better graphics and a faster, more stable connection. In this guide, we’ll explain the download and installation process for both platforms.

Step 1: Download the Decentraland Client

  • Go to https://decentraland.org/download/ and click ‘Download’. The download will start automatically. Wait for the download to finish before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2 for PC: Install the Decentraland Client on PC

  • Locate the downloaded installation file (usually in your "Downloads" folder).

  • Double-click the installation file to launch the setup process.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Choose the destination folder and agree to the terms and conditions.

  • Once the installation is complete, the Decentraland Client will launch automatically.

Step 2 for Mac: Install the Decentraland Client on Mac

  • Locate the downloaded installation file (usually in your "Downloads" folder).

  • Double-click the installation file to extract the Decentraland application.

  • Drag the Decentraland app into the "Applications" folder.

Due to Mac security settings, you may encounter a warning message when trying to open the app for the first time. To allow the app to run, follow these steps:

a. Open "System Preferences" by clicking the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen.

b. Navigate to "Security & Privacy."

c. Click on the "General" tab.

d. Click on the lock icon in the bottom-left corner and enter your administrator password to make changes.

e. Under "Allow apps downloaded from," click "Open Anyway" next to the Decentraland app.

f. Confirm your choice by clicking "Open" in the prompt that appears.

Step 3: Entering Decentraland from the Desktop Client

When entering Decentraland you can create an account that is linked to your crypto wallet or visit as a guest. Making an account will allow you to permanently save your avatar for return visits, claim free Wearables, try out different Wearables & Emotes in the Marketplace, and buy your favorites—all you need is a crypto wallet to connect to your account. To sign into the Decentraland Client with your crypto wallet, you will also need to have downloaded the mobile app of your crypto wallet.

Option 1: Login as a Guest

  • Launch the Decentraland client on your PC or Mac.

  • Click on the "Play as Guest" button.

  • Customize your avatar and display name.

  • You are now ready to explore Decentraland as a guest!

Option 2: Wallet Login with Mobile Authentication

  • Launch the Decentraland client on your PC or Mac.

  • Click on the "Connect Wallet" button.

  • A QR code will appear on the screen. Scan this QR code with your mobile crypto wallet app (e.g., MetaMask or Trust Wallet).

  • Approve the connection request on your mobile wallet app.

  • Customize your avatar and display name.

  • You are now logged in with your wallet and can access the full features of Decentraland!
